Grometts - Do they get removed and why?

DD who is 5 had grometts about 18 months ago and on the last hospital check up, we were advised that normally they fall out after about 9 months.

Is there as possiblity they will want to remove them if they are not falling out, Have heard if they are in too long they can cause permanent perforations.

One of DDs lasted just over 18 months then came out. There is still a chance that it will come out by itself. I think if they stay in too long there can be problems with the ear drum healing over longer term so I guess they may take it out if it persists much longer. Best person to advise you will be the ENT your DD is under.
