aargh! Dd2 has two singing performances to do for school this week and she has a horrendous cold and a sore throat. Anyone got any suggestions for relief to get her through them. She will be devastated if she can't do it Sad

Will post in general as well as I am desperate!
Thanks

age?

I don't know any magic cures other than the usual - fluids, calpol/nurofen, olbas oil and steam.

Hope she manages ok and feels better soon.

Loads of water and honey for the throat. Strepsils are good for temporary relief but quite bad to sing with cos they numb the throat.

Also if you can YouTube some vocal warmup exercises they are actually quite good for clearing mucus etc, so tell her to practise them if she can.

Googled and found this which may be of use?
.a vapouriser, is that something that you pour water into and it creates steam? If so, add these drops to it. If not, then what I do is just have a pan of water boiling on the stove and stand over it with dd in my arms, so she breathes in the steam. (You can waft the steam towards you, just be very careful because obviously steam can burn.)In the boiling water you need to add a few drops of tea tree oil, a few drops of pine oil, and a few drops of propolis (it's what bees use to construct their hives, it's incredible stuff). Do it twice a day, just for a couple of minutes each time, that's enough. I've found it to be quite stimulating, so don't do it before bedtime iof you can avoid it.Please try it, it really has worked wonders on my dd, she's only ever had 2 persistant coughs and this cured them both in 2 days. It may not work, as I said, but I have a lot of faith in it.I'm always recommending it and no-one ever even tries it. Booo. You can get those 3 things in holland and barrett by the way - 2 essential oils and the propolis just make sure you get it in the liquid form.

Gah just typed and lost my message.

Thanks all. We have honey and lemon but apparently it tastes like ear wax! So that's not happening very often. She has been resting all day, interspersed with fluids, steam inhalation and lozenges (vocalzones as recommended by chemist) and I have just got some sandersons throat specific also recommended by chemist to gargle with. Phew! Fingers crossed then and I just hope she feels better not worse tomorrow.
