Appendicitis ?

Anyone have any experience of appendicitis ? My 5 year old developed a fever earlier, complained of a headache, has been sick a couple of times and is complaining of tummy ache by his belly button. He has had neurofen and paracetamol on a pretty much empty tummy so maybe that has caused the tummy ache ? Going on holiday tomorrow so this is excellent timing. Anyone had experience of appendicitis ? What were the first signs ?

Have no personal experience but from what i've heard appendicitis does hurt around the belly button BUT i think they're normally rolling round in agony!

How is he now? Where are you going on holiday to?

He's been sick again and perked up a lot since being sick. Still complaining of some tummy ache. We leave for turkey at 4am Sad !

Have you don't the pressure test? Press in on his tummy, do it all over before touching his right side, if he jumps for the ceiling when you touch his right side I would go and get him seen at ooh.

It could however be a bad gastro bug. Ds1 had this, on holiday. I hope you get your holiday.

Could he be over excited about the holiday? My sister suffered from migraines as a child and they often presented like this. She missed countless parties and events before she was finally diagnosed.

Bizarrely if it's your appendix you cannot hop on one leg (I'm not winding you up, this is absolutely true).

If you tap the tummy of someone with appendictis it hurts more when you let go than when you press down but this is difficult to gauge and personally I would leave it to the medical professionals.

He's a bit young to fit the usual appendicitis age range but if you have ANY doubts take him to A&E pronto to be checked.
Don't leave it until he is in lots of pain as this means this situation is getting worse, you really don't want it to burst as this can cause peritonitis which can be dangerous.

It is a hassle but I would rather take my kids to an English hospital than one where English will not be the first language of the medical staff.

Thank you, some brilliant tips here. Going to try the hopping in a minute and the pressure test.
Over excitement is interesting though...this is not the first time we've had him unwell the day before hols, but the stomach pain is a new thing. Time will tell I suppose. Please please let me have this holiday Sad

In view of the upcoming holiday I would get an emergency gp appointment to have a feel of his tummy. Appendicitis can present in different ways and at least you can get some reassurance.
