Strange, persistent rash in 14 mo ds

Does anyone have experience of similar symptoms? Ds diagnosed with chickenpox one month ago, although GP said they weren't 'typical' as didn't appear to itch and not all blistered. 2 weeks later a fresh crop appeared and nursery sent ds home saying he had chickenpox again. GP said yes 'probably'. The spots have never really gone, most faded but the odd one would crop up on the body (most on trunk but distributed everywhere); today a fresh red crop on tummy and a temperature. Ds has been 'out of sorts' for a while now, although still eating - grumpy, teethy iyswim. Constant cold. Beginning to think he has underlying bacterial infection or persistent virus. Seeing GP again at 4pm but think they won't know. Has anyone had similar or know more?

I would ask for a blood test.

Thanks loopy. They looked at his throat (don't know why they didn't before) and he has strep infection - had it for a while obviously, poor thing. Explains a lot.
