Do I take dd to the Drs with this?

She's 11, came home yesterday evening doubled over with stomach pains. She's a bit of a drama queen so I packed her off to bed with a hot water bottle.

She's rolling about on the bed this morning with central, lower abdo pain which she says is there a bit all the time but then she gets stronger waves.

I've gently pressed her tummy and that didn't seem to make it worse - I rememebr GP doing this to me when I was little to check it wasn't appendicitis Hmm

Maybe she's about to start her periods???? But its the worry that it could be appendicitis thats bothering me.

I think I would. If the pain is enough to have her rolling about and as it's been going on for a good few hours I think I'd want to rule out anything like appendicitis.

Thanks, will ring the Dr. Its so hard with her been a bit of a drama queen to know what to do sometimes. She'll play it up for me and probably will trot into the GP and tell him its not too bad!

I would get her seen if she is still in pain.

I was like this at her age when my period was due (not a drama queen!) but would see doc if pain continues.

Thanks everyone. Have got an appt for 11am so if she's still bad then I'll take her and if she's better I can cancel.

This happened two weeks ago today with my DS (8 also a drama queen).... Came out of school at 3.30pm fine . At 4 pm Started with central tummy a he gradually and then quickly got worse. Only comfy position curled up. No actual vomiting but nausea, no temp. by 11.15pm he was in theatre having his appendix out....
I think you are absolutely doing the right thing. In fact if she gets worse I would see some one quicker. And don't let her eat until she is seen.
Prob nothing but that is what I thought!!,

How is she, Beaver?

VivaLeBeaver · 02/07/2012 17:11

Dr doesn't think its appendicitis which was my main concern. Said it could be viral.

DD has seemed better this afternoon, just every now and then grabs her tummy and moans loudly. She's just had a big plate of chips and an icecream though. Hmm

There's a virus going round DD's school at the moment that starts as tummy pains, DD1's friend has had it on and off for a week now. Pain in the morning, then it clears up. No loss of appetite. Nothing seems to stop it though! Hmm

Hope your DD feels better soon viva

Happypiglet · 02/07/2012 18:24

Glad it's just a virus. Hope she improves soon.

VivaLeBeaver · 02/07/2012 18:49

Thanks. I'm planning on sending her to school tomorrow.

DD is rolling around in bed again this morning sobbing with pain. She was at bedtime last night as well. Sad

I'm going to drop a urine sample off at the Drs this morning but she dpesn't have any UTI symptoms such as stinging, frequency.

How is she today?

VivaLeBeaver · 03/07/2012 17:54

Still the same. Sad

DH took her back to the Dr this morning with a urine sample which was clear. They've prescribed buscopan now which should help with the spasms. Hasn't made any difference. She is still at times falling to the floor and sobbing with pain, is then kind of OK for 20 mins and then has another bout. Sometimes the bouts are quite short sometimes 30 mins long.

It was a different GP and this one also said its probably a virus.

Its just really odd, she doesn't feel sick, her poo is normal.

So either it is a virus, or she's about to start her periods, or has some sort of cyst (there was a thread on here recently with a MN'er who's dd had the same symptoms for 10 days and it was an ovarian cyst) or a grumbling appendix.

Day 3 now.
