Nits - will we all get them?

DD1 has done pretty well to have got to nearly 6 before getting her first headlice infestation so I'm a little inexperienced in all things nitty. I haven't seen any live lice but have just found some eggs (nits?) stuck to her hair and she's been scratching like mad (she's been bitten by something all over her face too so I initially thought she may have been bitten on her head aswell). I've applied Hedrin to her hair and will wash it off in the morning and I have a nitty-gritty comb too.

My question is - how likely is it that the rest of the family will get them too (DH, me and DD2 - 17m)? Should I Hedrin us all or wait and see (DH at work so can't check each other yet!)?

you should only treat if you find live lice. When dd had them no-one else in the family got them. DS has never had lice

Thanks Seona - maybe I should have held off on the Hedrin then? I'll nitty-gritty it in the morning after I've washed it off and fingers crossed none of the rest of us get anything.

don't worry, Hedrin isn't a harsh chemical treatment - just silicone that suffocates the lice Smile

It won't do any harm to your dd, and I would have treated 'just nits' with it too.

Personally, when dd1 had nits, I couldn't cope with not treating myself - I found none when I combed (Nitty Gritty) but did Hedrin and then combed out two dead ones!
