Sorry another bit of advice from a Practice Nurse. I saw a little lovely girl aged 3, she had been given a toy plastic syringe to play with. She was a delight and so brave! On the other hand I have seen 2 children today, the Mums' had not told them why they were there. I had to deal with hysterics and tantrums. Please My lovely friends Mums, they do understand unless they have other problems obviously! Most of the the time they do benefit from knowing why they are there, I promise you. Best wishes to you all xx

Our practice nurse won't do a child who hasn't been told before they go into the room. She says that otherwise she often sees the child having hysterics another time when they've come to the doctor with sibling/something minor, but they don't trust their mum not to suddenly tell them they're having an injection.
