mucus in poo

Sorry but I'm going to talk in detail about poo.

After a nasty 24hr virus last week (39.9 temperature) 21mth DS seemed to better quickly but the next day vomited and had vile mucusy diarrohea for 2 days. His poo is starting to firm up, though still looser than usual, but still contains mucus. (Can't believe I'm writing this! :0 ) Anyway, is this his body flushing out the virus, or does he still have the virus? Should I take him back to the dr? Should I keep him away from playgroups?

Could be wrong but think gut sometimes produces mucous when stressed or irritated. think usual advice is that its ok to resume normal activities when d and v has been gone for 48 hours.
