Would you wake your DC? Quick 2nd opinion please!

Good morning all!

I just wanted a second opinion or two:

DD age 5 has been a bit under the weather this weekend with blocked ear, tired but with a high temperature at night.

I thought she'd be ok for school as she wasn't too bad during the daytime yesterday, but last night she woke up at 9 and was feverish and agitated until she finally went back off to sleep at about 1am. This is very unlike her as she's normally a good sleeper.

Dilemma now is do I wake her to go to school or let her sleep and keep her off?

I think I'd have normally kept her off school had she not had so much time off this year already with one thing and another.

Thanks

No don't wake her

TodaysAGoodDay · 25/06/2012 07:32

If it was my DS I'd wake him and see how he is, then decide. He can always go back to sleep if he's not well. Take your DD's temp and then decide. Me, I'm a hard mummy, I won't let my son miss a day off school because he's got a bit of a temp. I'd just dose him up and send him regardless. The school can phone later if necessary.

Leave her and keep her off school. Even if she feels better today she needs to catch up on her sleep Smile

N0tinmylife · 25/06/2012 07:33

Could you leave her to sleep, then see how she is when she wakes up? Take her in late if she feels ok? I can't imagine she will learn a lot if you wake her up now after 6 hours sleep!

Hervana · 25/06/2012 07:36

That's exactly the same night as I had with my DS last night except he was awake on and off 12-3.30ish. He did wake up this morning and
I'm keeping him off school mostly because he will be exhausted.

DS hasn't had a day off sick before but I really don't think this should make a difference to your decisiOn

I wouldn't wake your DD. hope she gets better soon

Thank you - I was leaning towards being a hard mummy like you said TodaysAGoodDay, but actually I think she does need t catch up on her sleep as the others say. Especially if she's fighting soemthing off.

Right, that's sorted - time for a cuppa!

Thanks again

Let her sleep , I would never send mine to school with a temperature and she will be tired all day.

winnybella · 25/06/2012 07:41

No, I wouldn't wake her and if she's still feverish, I would be taking her to see a doctor- ear infections are very unpleasant and ABs would help quickly.

ilovesprouts · 25/06/2012 07:43

let her sleep my ds was the same last week he came home from school ill and slept 6 hours .

Sirzy · 25/06/2012 08:10

My Ds had a similar night last night and is meant to be leaving for nursery in 5 minutes, he is still asleep so I am leaving him to sleep

Haribojoe · 25/06/2012 08:13

Let her sleep and keep her off.

eastendywendy · 25/06/2012 09:47

You did the right thing. Why on earth should a child who had been feverish and agitated in the night have to go to school? Its not fair on them or the rest of the class.

Ds has been at school with a very low temp of below 379 before but no way would I send him with anything higher, not least because it isn't fair to pass whatever it is around.

Dropdeadfred · 25/06/2012 09:51

Never wake a child up who's been ill and had such a disturbed night... Let them sleep... Never send a child to school ill
