Is this a stork bite?

DD is 8mo and tonight whilst she having her dinner she seemed to strain like she was doing a poo (but she didn't) and a large red area appeared on her forehead, between her eyebrows. It happened a few times and then the red area 'grew' 2 red v-shaped 'horns' that went up towards her hairline. I swear I thought she was about to have some kind of brain haemorrhage!

I googled and it looks like it might be a 'stork bite' but all the sites seem to suggest that these marks are always there and just get more intense under straining or when they cry. Her skin is really clear and I can't see any marks normally, plus it doesn't happen when she cries.

Does anyone know anything about stork bites? Or is my LO about to spurt little devil horns?!!!

DD2 (16m) has one and it has been there since birth. You can see it vaguely when her skin is 'normal' but if she gets upset then those little horns come out. I believe it is called a salmon patch or stork mark as you say. I know another little girl with one too - had never seen one before DD - but they're pretty common I think. DD (and the other little one) also has a mottled area at the back of her head at the base but this is under the hair so not really visible unless you're looking for it.

It's strange isn't it? I nearly freaked out last night! I can't see anything on her forehead normally and it's the first time I've noticed it. Have been reading up about it today and it us pretty common, you're right. Nothing on the back of the head that I can see. Just keeping an eye out for her growing a tail now!! Wink
