Impetigo and antibiotics.

My son has a nasty case of impetigo on his scalp. He has been prescribed oral antibiotics and they seem to be doing the trick however I cannot see that it's going to be completely cleared before we finish the course.

Does anyone know whether it's ok to leave it at that stage or should it have gone completely by the time you finish the anti-b's? Is it possible that if there is still some there it could start to spread?

Not relishing the thought of another week of 4x a day medicine. The chocolate button bribes are starting to lose their appeal!

Have you tried smothering the impetigo with tea tree oil in a carrier oil? You can apply TTO neat to small cuts but I wouldn't do that with a young child. Any kind of bland oil (olive, almond, etc) with a few drops of TTO in and drip/run it over the spots. Might speed up the healing process.

Thanks for the suggestion duchesse. Will investigate tea tree oil and give it a go.
