Transient Synovitis in DS5 - any advice please?

Hi, my DS5 woke up in the middle of the night last week in agony, unable to move. After a few hours at hospital (blood test/xrays) they diagnosed Transient Synovitis. It has been nearly a week now and although he is much better than before (he literally couldn't walk) he is still limping quite a bit and I had to pick him up from school early today as the pain was getting too much. Obvioulsy I'm trying to get him to rest but this is tricky for a normally active 5 year old boy! We are giving Calpol and Nurofen.. Does anyone have any experience of transient synovitis/irritable hip and how long it might take for him to completely recover? We have a follow up appointment at the hospital tomorrow so I will ask questions there - I just was expecting him to be a lot better by now.. Many thanks

op I thought you were custardo....

Anyway, my DS had it last summer, also aged 5. It got better gradually over a couple of weeks. I thought my DS was being a hypochondriac when he suddenly couldn't walk but he was really suffering. His hip pain was transferred to his knee which made it a bit more confusing.

Thank you Quip, that reassures me a bit. Guess I'll just have to be a bit more patient and get to ds to do less.
