Baby seems to have excessive tongue movement, or am I just paranoid?

DD is 8mo and her tongue seems to be constantly on the go. She's forever poking it out of her mouth, curling the tip, making it pointy or lifting the tip as if she's trying to lick her nose. I know it's silly worrying over a tongue but its all the time even eating is a task as her tongue is forever in the way even with finger foods. I don't know what it's doing when she sleeps because she sleeps with her mouth clamped shut but as soon as she wakes its poke-poke-poke tongue again.

Anyone else had this? I thought its possibly that she's realised she has a tongue and finds it interesting but she doesn't seem aware she's doing it and doesn't attempt to touch it with her hands. Family are starting to joke about it which is getting to me and I've never seen anything quite like it.

I'm being paranoid aren't I?

Our DD did a lot of tongue playing (or whatever I should call it!) at around that age - think it was a precursor to using it to start babbling/trying to talk, ie working out what it did and how to use it. Can't remember how long it lasted though. As long as she seems happy, I'd try not to worry.
