Codeine for toddler

DS (15 months) has been prescribed codeine for pain relief (1mg/kg as needed, not more than 4 times a day.)

I'm a little concerned about addiction? Am I being ridiculous, or is he likely to get withdrawal symptoms when we stop the codeine?

My DD was on codeine and indeed morphine several times. It never caused addiction issues and I would certainly never let worry about that get in the way of giving a child adequate pain relief. I believe withdrawal is rare in cases of severe pain but if they suspected withdrawal they could easily taper the dose back down. I am very sorry your DS is in pain, I hope it is resolved soon.
