armpit pain and infected graze

Hi all, dd is 8 and fell off her scooter on Wednesday and grazed her forearm. Quite bad graze and it bled. We covered it up and cleaned it however by yesterday evening it was oozing pus so cleaned it up reapplied clean dressing. Dd got up this morn complained of severe pain in her armpit very sore when we touch it and gets shooting pains in it I've had a feel and nothing obvious maybe a slight lymph like lump but not sure as its very tender. Checked her graze and the area was bit read and angry looking. Applied ice and clean dressing and she insisted she wanted to play her footy match. Tonight her graze looks very swollen up however no more pus. Still pains in armpit.
Does this sound like graze infected and its causing lymph nodes to raise under her arm?? Will it settle on its own?? Her temp is relatively ok at 37.5

If it were my DD I would go to A&E with the armpit pain, even if temp ok.
Hope all ok.

You need to get her seen tonight imo.

Are there any red lines / tracks coming from the graze?

Please call ooh / nhs.

Her symptoms suggest it might be infected, I would get it checked TBH, at a walk in centre or minor injuries.

If the wound is infected it would explain why the nearby glands are up, and the swelling. I would give some pain relief for it before you go.

I would ring the OOH GP service or go to an NHS walk-in centre. Your daughter may need antibiotics. My son had a nasty infection in his arm recently following a very innocuous graze and he needed a 10 day course. I'd make the call tonight if I were you.

Ok thanks guys. Nope no lines or tracks coming from it, it did have a lot of road grit in it when it first happened which is what I think may have caused all this. Ok thanks will speak to doc

I agree, this is infected. Not a blue lights emergency but not one to leave until Monday.

dikkertjedap · 26/05/2012 20:38

Did you manage to see OOH doctor? Is it okay?

Chundle · 26/05/2012 21:58

I rang OOH doc he said they veryyyy busy with a big massive emergency at the mo and if it can wait til morn then best to do so. So ill keep her in my bed tonight and keep an eye on her and take her in at 7am

If she still has the swollen gland this morning I would take her to OOH TBH.
