Molluscum - any 'natural' cures??

NonnoMum · 24/05/2012 20:56

DD has molluscum which is getting worse. GP not interested and I know it's not painful, but any suggestions for 'cures' or treatments. Don't mind if they are woo but don't fancy the 'use your own urine' that's just come up on google...

Thanks

Get to Holland Barrett and get some thuja (sp?) - will sort it right out :)

thisisyesterday · 24/05/2012 21:03

i have read that if you pop some of them the rest will disappear.
it worked for a little girl i used to look after once.

NonnoMum · 24/05/2012 22:03

Thank you for speedy replies... Will try a couple out...

Therapeutic - would you recommend the pills or the rub-on variety of thuja? DD is 7.

DH has had molluscum for a few months (we thought it was hand, foot and mouth so didn't see the doctor for a while...). He has reacted really well to Fucidin - not a natural remedy, I don't think, though.

I've heard the thing about getting rid of one and the rest will follow. I don't think I really buy it because I don't see how that would work (and having seen the stuff in the middle of them... ). however, I reckon I know which one is the Mother Molluscum and would be the first to go....

DS2 has had t for several months now, just looks manky. DS1 got it last Summer but it only lasted 2 months. and was fairly localised to his armpit. I will be hot footing it to holland and barrett tom for some of this thuga.

i think it's something to do with the body recognising the virus once it's broken open and then it starts fighting it off or something weird like that.

the little girl i cared for had 2 that became infected and popped and once they were gone the rest cleared up too
only anecdotal of course, they might have cleared up anyway i suppose

My daughter took the little pills - worked within about a week I think. Good luck!

I got rid my DS's molluscum using Boots tea tree and witch hazel face wash all over his body in the shower ( I banned baths and sponges/flannels).

I then put tea tree cream on each spot and covered any that looked like popping with plasters. He sometimes went to bed with 10 or more plasters on. We did help some to pop using tea tree facial wipes to catch the nasty liquid which causes the virus to spread.

We did this morning and night.

Clean sheets and pj's every day.

It took me ages to get the problem diagnosed as he suffers from excema and two doctors wrongly put it down to that.

Once I got the diagnosis of molluscum I did loads of research on mumsnet and it was tea tree oil cream and which hazel that seemed to be the most successful.

DS's cleared up in two weeks. Doctor was amazed!

I did some googling and found a suggestion to use cider vinegar. As i had some in the cupboard I gave it a try.

I dabbed the cider vinegar on with cotton wool at night then covered with Surgical tape.

The spots dried out within 2-3 days.

keepmoving · 26/05/2012 23:05

Booner, sorry may be dumb question but did you apply the cider vinegar with cotton wool and then covered with tape direct on the skin or did you use tape to hold the cotton wool over the spots?

FamiliesShareGerms · 30/05/2012 21:55

Booner - how did you tape over spots in tricky areas like the groin?

Thanks!

Kellamity · 30/05/2012 21:59

DD had them for ages, just a little persistent crop under her armpit but so stubborn. A couple of weeks ago she told me they were really itching so I had a look and I squeezed one gently and it popped. She didn't seem bothered so I squeezed a couple more including the (mother of all molloscum spots) - 2 weeks later all gone, not a spot in sight!

RedBlanket · 30/05/2012 22:02

DS knocked the top of one of his and they all went away shortly after.

Booner · 31/05/2012 13:31

I tried to tape the cotton wool soaked in cider vinegar onto the spots but he said that it stung.
So I covered the spots with clean cotton wool and taped over that.

If I remember, in the tricky places we just dabbed on the cider vinegar and didn't tape over
