4yr old complaining occasionally of back ache

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Dr Google has just terrified me witless.

I've not taken him to the Doctor with it yet as he only mentions it a couple of times a week, and it doesn't seem to be stopping him from doing anything.

But it's a bit odd isn't it?

Before you go a-worrying: Do you or your DH have problems with your back? I have arthritis in my spine (among other places), so I often have to remind DS1 not to squeeze round my back and I can't always pick DS2 up because me back hurts. DS2 regularly tells me that his back hurts too, but he's just copying.

I think you need to see the GP. Where exactly is the pain? Could it be something simple like constipation or a urinary tract infection if its lower back ache? Have you checked his mattress?

Lower back.

Hmm... I suppose I do complain of a sore back from time to time. Might be copying.

Thinking about it, it's generally when he gets down from the table... so maybe it's something as simple as his chair back digging in.

Does he frequently have a poo after mealtimes/ getting down from table? If so, it could be he is equating that feeling of before-a-poo with backache. DD used to complain of tummy pain on a regular basis and it took us ages to work out that it meant a poo was imminent.
