My 17 month old has, since about 10 months, had several bouts of chest, throat, tonsil and ear infections. She's had an on and off cough for months. It got particularly bad about 6 weeks ago and various GPs in our practise have said it's chest/wheezing, tonsils and/or throat. It seemed to be penicillin resistant and last week she got some erythromycin which cleared up a very red and sore throat . Yesterday the gp said her throat looks fine now and the ongoing hscking wheezy cough that sometimes makes her throw up is a post viral wheezy cough that may take weeks to go.
Except I think he's wrong. i think it is more than that and it's a pencillin resistant but that the erythromycin has mostly but not entirely cleared up. Now obviously I;m not a doctor but I am not convinced doctors know best not least because we have seen 4 GPs in recent weeks who all think it is something different.
What can I do for the best? I asked for a referral to a peadiatrician who could take a whole picture look and was told it isn't needed. How long do I let the cough get worse for before going again - we've been about 5 times in the last two weeks.
