My daughter is due to go into hospital tomorrow for an operation on monday however she has today started with a cold, just seems to be a yucky nose.

Does anyone know how likely they are to cancel us on monday morning?

My thought is that as she doesnt have a sold it may be ok, I dont want to put her at risk but likewise I dont want to cancel it!

They wont do it if she has a cold.

My DS was due to have surgery but had had a cold for about 3-4 days, I called the hospital the day before and told them, they didnt hesitate, just made a new appointment date and that was that.

If she is showing any signs of illness they won't operate unless it's urgent

DaisySteiner · 19/05/2012 18:53

Quite likely to cancel it. It will depend on how bad it is, what the anaesthetist thinks and how urgent the operation is. They will have a low threshold for cancelling paedeatric surgery though so I wouldn't be too hopeful. If a wasted trip to the hospital would be a real hassle I would probably cancel anyway, otherwise turn up and see what happens. If it wasn't on a Monday and say to phone for advice, but you probably won't be able to get an answer before hand now.

for my 3 ds's grommets they said they would only cancel if they felt it would affect breathing ie heavy cold, cough, chest infection, wheezing etc - ds2 suffered with constant running nose/cold before first set of grommets, he'd have never had them if it was an issue but grommets is only 40mins under so I guess it depends on op - only hospital will be able to make the call and they most likely need to see her to know, children's ward will be manned, could a nurse give you some advice? they'll at least say come in and see or cancel...

thanks, hospital a 2 hour trip away, so I will phone them in the morning and ask. Its for a gastrostomy feeding tube and bowel biopsy and upper and lower endoscopies and biopsies , so nothing too invasive.

Been waiting since Nov for a date! been cancelled by hospital once , their error!
