Dd (11 months) has been ill off and on for weeks. Tonsilitis, cold, cough, now another cold. Been to the docs a few times, had anti-bs for the tonsilitis, then every thime made to feel stupid for taking her in.

The past few days she's been worse. Raging temp a couple of nights, cough and cold (runny nose), sleeping about 20/24hours, sick a couple of times - I think through coughing.

It has been literally weeks since she was well. What can I do, poor mite? :(

Oh also, not been eating for the past couple of days, only taking milk.

I think it sounds like she has a chest infection.

Oh, really? DH won't take her to the docs again, he's been mortified ever time they turn him away.

If its econdary bronchitis (which is what it sounds like) it generally clears up on its own. Lots of fluids and steam therapy and what ever food she wants. Another few days should see her getting better

LoopyLoopsTootTootToots · 15/05/2012 18:19

She won't eat anything.

Don't worry too much about that, just keep her fluids up. Once she's eating again, carbload her to catch up or you'll find she is permanently hungry

So, no doc needed? Keep giving calpol? Ok to let her sleep all day and night?

Thanks :)

yup, let her sleep as much as she wants, its the best medicine for her. To keep an eye on her chest, watch her as she breathes. If things are very bad you'll see the diaphragm sucking in. The GP would be needed then, just to check her o2 sats are ok

This sounds so familiar, my DD had what seemed like a constant cold and other things for months. It is horrible to see them ill all of the time like this, my nurse who we always get appointments with (not through choice) makes me feel like I am wasting their time too. I have found the Karvol plug in's a god send in helping DD sleep, Calpol and Ibuprofen help too - docs told me to give Calpol and if temp not gone down after 1 hr to give Ibuprofen. Don't worry about her not eating, fluid is most important. My DD went over a week without eating once but she is perfectly fine. You will find that once she decides to eat she will eat for England! Hope she's feeling better soon x

Have you got a humidifier? I've got a Vicks one from Argos and its brilliant. There's a little tank in it where you can put eucalyptus or Lavender oil or whatever in it. That might help ease her chest and the coughing (Humidifier that is) and maybe some fresh air might help. Poor lamb. Hope she's feeling better soon.

Thanks all. I'm taking her to the doctor this morning - lots of bright green snot and conjuntivitis. Poor little thing. :(
