18mo asthmatic - holding breath?

Hello winding if any mums can give me some advise?
My 18mo diagnosed with asthma when he was 13mo (early I know but 7 hospital admissions and family history ect)
Anyway he has been on a daily preventer since being diagnosed and has steadily made progress, he fought off his first cold without it going onto his chest or being admitted! Yay!?

Anyway he has been full of a cold all week so been on his ventalin, only the past few days, breathing has increased (no tugging) but he has started to hold his breath for a few seconds before letting it out, this has been going on since last night and seems pretty constant, he is very grumpy, and clingy, doesn't want to play, not eaten or drank much either. It's the holding his breath that's worrying me, Is it because he is struggling? He hasn't done this on any of his other episodes
I have called the docs but can't get him seen until tomorrow.
Any advise/ thoughts or similar experiences??

Ds is 2.5 and asthmatic and does the same, I call it his "sticky breathing" as it's almost as if the breathing gets stuck. Drs have heard it when he has been admitted and never commented so I'm guessing it's normal.
