Walk-in Centre or A&E for 17 mo old

DD just fell off the sofa. It's no higher than she is so it was a short fall, but I'm worried about her right leg. She's able to put weight on it and is able to use it. In fact, she brought me her shoes to put on.

She seems her usual self but I went to the NHS direct site and used their symptom checker for her. They concluded that it was a strain and nothing really to worry about, but it doesn't look right to me. As DD really seems very unconcerned (no crying or anything), I'm not sure if A&E is the right call and we have a v. good walk-in centre a short bus ride away. Hence why I'm asking here. Am I being PFB or should I take her off to one of the above?

When DS1 did similar I took him to our minor injury dept (guess similar to your walk in centre?). They took couple of x-rays and asked loads of probing questions to be sure it was an accident. Much shorter wait than A and E.

What do you mean by it doesn't look right to you - does it look misshapen, swollen, bruised? If she is walking on it that's a good sign (but doesn't rule out a fracture altogether) and it was not a significant height.

I would go to the WIC as it doesn't seem to warrant A and E at the moment. - no serious injury that's obvious at least. They will send you on to A and E if necessary.

Thanks all. It looks a tiny bit misshapen compared with the left. Really minor. I will take her to the walk-in centre. As you say, they'll point me to A&E if necessary.

Why doesn't it look right? If she's not in pain and able to weight bear then you're not giving much to go on. When ds dished his ankle it was off a step less than 6" in height, so height doesn't necessarily effect it. He's had much higher falls he's walked away without a bruise.

I'd go to the WIC if you think there's something wrong, but from the info you give, she sounds fine.

x-posted.

How is it misshapen? Could it just be a normal difference in her legs that you've only noticed because you're looking closely?

Just to give you an update, she's fine. The doctor took one look at her, grinned and said I had nothing to worry about. Thanks everyone.
