Reflux returns at 11mo after vomiting bug?

Hi everyone, I hope someone can help.

Is it possible for reflux to make a reappearence in an older baby?

DS suffered and was on gaviscon until solids at 6 months. He now is on 3 good meals a day and bfs about 5 times in 24 hrs, one of which is a night feed.

He had a horrid week long vomiting bug which totally screwed up our good sleep pattern. Ever since then he's had trouble going in his cot. At first I thought it was clingyness, but he's re-learnt to self settle for naps and is starting to get his nighttime pattern back. The problem is that now, for a week now, he has woken screaming (really pained screaming) soon after bedtime. Any time between 30mins-2.5hrs after being put down. He cries and cries like he did as a refluxy newborn. He then feeds voraciously for a while, seems to calm down, then pulls off and screams for a while longer until he falls asleep in my arms. Followed by 3 or 4 failed attempts to put him back in his cot, dragging out the whole thing for about an hour. Eventually I can put him down.

He has quite a big dinner at 5 and then a longish bf at 630, usually feeds to sleep at bed time. It did occur to me that he was waking up unhappy that he was no longer feeding in my arms, if that's the case it's a very new problem, but feeding doesn't seem to stop him crying for very long.

So my Q is - is this reflux? Might it be a temporary thing after tummy bug? I still have some gaviscon - when would you give it? After/before solids or milk?

Thanks all

Hi jaffa19, I didn't want to leave your post unanswered. It usually takes a while for things to settle back to normal after a tummy bug so hopefully your DS will get over this as his digestive system settles back down. That said, I've found with my DS that reflux does make a re-appearance every now and then, usually when he's teething (my DS is 16mo and I thought his reflux stopped at 11 months, but we've had about 3/4 episodes since then for about a week each time).
