Would appreciate your thoughts on this. She was a bit snuffly yesterday so put a Karvol capsule on her grobag last night. She sounds full of it this morning, breathing through her mouth a lot of the time and she's started to cough a bit. Not in a worrying chest infection kind of way though.

Should I take her swimming as usual or leave it for this week. I've never really thought about it before, I just know friends of mine who've cancelled because their LO has a cough/cold. Could it make her worse if we go?

I would definitely not take a baby with a bad cold swimming. Getting cold and wet won't help. With older children, if they really want to go, I would let them, but not a baby.

Don't take her swimming. She won't enjoy it, and the bacteria in the water (especially that lovely warm water in a children's pool, full of wee and snot etc) could cause or exacerbate secondary infections.

It might not make her worse, but if you were full off the cold would you want to go? Stay at home if she's miserable.

So speaketh the woman who has just kicked her 14 yo old off to school with a heavy cold Wink

I wouldn't take her, the cold (and dirty) water can make it worse.

also, if there is mucus streaming I would not go to avoid infecting other children in the pool.

LaMeuf · 10/05/2012 08:49

I wouldn't take her

Sirzy · 10/05/2012 09:02

What coco said. I wouldn't want to go swimming like that so wouldn't take someone else who was like that.

Have a day snuggled up together out of the rain!

Thank you everyone. We'll leave it for this week and she can snuffle the day away with me curled up having lots of hugs :)
