We had our asthma check for DS with a new nurse. He's had a bit of a cold and has been using his blue puffer so I asked the nurse to have a quick listen to his chest to see if it was an asthma wheeze or just his cold making him a bit wheezy iyswim.

Her response "I dont listen to chests" Hmm Shock

What kind of asthma nurse doesnt listen to chests - or am I missing something?

Hi
I have had that with the asthma nurse. Ds is under Great Ormond street now but before i asked and she said she wasnt trained and had the get a dr in. I think they are only there to check medication etc.

It's not as simple as just sticking the stethoscope to the chest though. I have come across plenty of gps who can't accurately do it.

The role of the asthma nurse is primarily to monitor medicine and give advice rather than acute treatment

oh yes, I appreciate that but I just wonder if a asthma nurse really should be able to do that.

I was spoilt as we had an amazing asthma nurse before who really looked after DS and probably went over and above all the time, I miss her!!
