Worried about DD

DD is 9 years old, she eats well, is very active and normally very happy. Since before christmas she has had lots of sore throats and constant swollen glands, different glands go up and down all the time, sometimes painfull.

She had impetigo in jan and the nurse decided to to run a full blood count, this came back as satisfactory, so i relaxed a little thinking she was just run down.

The sore throats keep on coming, along with other minor illnesses, but she is never really ill with anything.

Then she started to complain of feeling dizzy and looked it too, I spoke to the gp who said her irons levels were good and the dizzy spells were probably related her ears. a couple of dizzy spells later we when to see the gp, who did a full blood count and glanduler fever tests. These came back fine. This was mid march and things are still the same.

I'm not sure what to do next one minute she is totally normal, then ill again, we have a new illness everyweek at the moment.

Is this normal? Could she just be run down or should I be demanding the gp does more, I don't want to put her though more tests just for the sake of it?

I just want my DD back.

It does sound like glandular fever to me. There are ones (I think) that mimic it without being the one they test for. I'd go back, particularly with the dizzy stuff. If they think it's ears, then ask for a referal to ENT so you can find out/rule out that, perhaps.

mrslego - I could have written your post. My dd (6) has been unwell since Jan, both her & her sister had tonsillitis twice in Jan, then she had a rash, high temp, the next week, headaches, constant sore throats that appear out of nowhere, her temperature will fluctuate so quickly, she can go from being fine to quite poorly over a 10 min spell although usually when tired, swollen glands on & off, originally under throat/neck area, these last 2 weeks in her neck with her face keeping swelling up & headaches & dizzy spells although these come & go. Since beg Jan she has done two full weeks at school, the rest of the time part weeks. My gp was very reluctant to do blood tests, kept saying she was just picking up different viruses, last week we eventually had them done & are awiting the results but have been reassured they don't suspect anything serious & it could poss be glandular fever or a post viral fatigue type thing or just a very bad run with lots of different viruses. I'd asked about a referral for ENT because of the constant sore throats but because she hasn't a history of tonsillitis or similar problems until this they didn't think it was appropriate at the moment. The dizzy spells could well by just from a viral bug affecting the ears but if the dizziness is a recurrent feature I would push for a referral, with my dd it seems to be the dizziness is associated with her ears & throat being sore. Your post makes me feel much better although I obviously don't want your dd to be ill! Does your dd go from appearing quite unwell & lethargic to being almost back to normal? My dd does & this along with a few problems at school has led to gp & school thinking it's stress, I think the stress of school is playing a part but I know that she is genuinely unwell & has been poorly in the holidays too.
