Stain defence/teflon in uniform

looking at m&s website, as they have 20% off uniform today. thinking about buying 100% cotton boys shorts, which got me to wondering (bad move) is this stain defence stuff on clothes good for you? a quick google revealed the usual range - from extremely scary stuff - blood poisoning carcinogen to absolutely fine (sponsored by teflon). what do you wise mnetters think?

I would forget it and lay in supplies of pre-wash Vanish (great product for the messy eater in your life), although I suppose it might irritate some sensitive skins. I am not aware that it is carcinogenic, though.
