sick 2yo - sleeping lots - normal??

hello

My 2yo DD has been sick since v late sunday night. Yesterday morning the trots kicked in, and it's been pretty messy all around. Thermometer says normal - low fever. She is finding it hard to keep any solids down, although had some dry toast today (was sick last night to). She had a yoghurt at 5pm today, and coughed and that came up. She is taking fluids (albeit reluctantly). My main concern is the amount she is sleeping - almost ALL day today

Will take her to docs in am, but was wondering if sleeping that much is normal when ill??

Any advice appreciated

adi x

My DS (2) has been sick since Saturday (just started other thread). He has been sleeping a bit more than normal but he is usually a child who evades sleep until the last possible minute.
On Saturday he lay on the sofa and just went to sleep. I knew he was ill then because the last time he went to sleep like that he was about six months old.

I think if she hasn't got a high temp it is probably just because her body is trying to recover. Also she won't have much energy because she isn't eating anything.

My DS had this at 14 months and slept on me all day for two days. Hope she feels better soon :)

My DS1 is slightly older than your DD (he is nearly 6) but he was struck down with something on Sunday and all he did all day was either vomit or sleep Sad

He literally led on the sofa, slept, would wake up to vomit, have a drink and then go back to sleep - I would be surprised if he was awake for more than an hour in total tbh.

Again, he is extremely lively and never sleeps during the day so it was very worrying.

However, he slept all night on Sunday night (albeit fitfully and in our bed) and was ok on Monday morning and didn't even nap on Monday as I would have expected him too.

So I guess, what I am trying to say, is I think their body just needs to shut down to shift whatever is making them ill so I am sure it is normal.

Hope she recovers soon Smile
