2 wk old broken skin on bum

Hi All,

My 2 week old has an awful bum at the mo.It has two areas of broken skin and bleeds. It looks soooo painful.

I've been to see Dr 3 times and have been given canesten, hydrocortison (sp) and a topical antibiotic. I'm putting these on 3-4 times a day and they think it is thrush/bacterial infection. I'm also keeping nappy off as much as possible and cleaning with water and cotton wool (and not rubbing).

However, it just doesn't seem to be improving, any one got any ideas or tips please???

Bepanthen nappy care ointment is great for red sore baby bums. Always worked for my babies.

Journey-we were using that before things got this bad, but thanks for the suggestion

Micawber-I'll try that, although the area isn't that wet iyswim. I change nappies every 2 hrs max and more if I hear a poo. I think it's happened as there were about 3 days of really runny almost constant poos, which almost "burnt" the area. I feel awful and agree it's terrible to think of the pain.

With DS he was allergic to the gel stuff in disposables.

He ended up being in terry nappies.

Which probably isn't what you want to hear!

Old remedy is egg white painted on the bum to make a barrier.

But it sounds awful.
