Red Pin Prick Rash - no other symptoms

My 10yo DD called me into the bathroom earlier to show me a red pin prick rash. It speads from her lower tummy (below belly button) and across her hips to her thighs.

Its not itchy but the spots feel slightly raised to the touch. The skin is normal underneath the rash - not pink or red. It is literally quite a thick covering of tiny little red dots.

Apart from being tired tonight (late night last night and early start today and a busy day) she seems fine in herself. No temp etc, eating OK etc etc.

She has been on peadiatric movicol for 2 weeks now due to constant tummy upsets (3 years plus - so nothing new or recent) and we are due back at the hospital next Thursday for test results etc but I really dont think this is connected.

She has had all childhood vaccinations but not yet had Rubella jab - I dont think, Dont they do this at 12 with the HPV now??? She had Chicken pox - a nasty does at 18 months old.

Any ideas what it may be anyone?

Gosh I am stupid - she will have been vaccinated against Rubella through the MMR!!! Sorry - I am also tired!

Hi Queen, the vaccine doesn't guarantee anything but it doesn't sound like rubella anyway. Could it be a reaction to something? Was she wearing new tights/jeans/pants? Have you been using a different washing powder?

Thanks for the reply!

Well she is up and about. A little grumpier than normal but fine in herself. No temperature fully able to play lego and Nintendo DS.

Rash is still there but not spread.

She went on a watersports trip yesterday with youth club and wore a wet suit. Maybe thats what caused it.

Maybe! People have been known to pee in wetsuits (disgusting I know!) but if that's the general area where the rash is maybe it could have something to do with it?

Could just be a viral rash. Ds usually gets his on his face, but occasionally in other places.

When I first used a body board I found I reacted to the polystyrene like that. It was the rubbing of it across me apparently. It was very itchy though.

Could it be shingles? Maybe worth a quick google although she would probably be properly ill if she had it

Queenofcake · 14/04/2012 12:21

bumbleyummy - gross!! But the rash is local to that area so OMG - vile that it is to think it, it may be that!!

She seems OK in herself but the rash is still there. I was out last night but she told DH it was itching last night. Will see how it goes over the weekend!

Does it blanch?
Sounds like a viral rash to me too. DS's get them all the time!

Ds2 also had a rash like that from a bodyboard.

Are wetsuits made of latex?? Could she have a latex allergy?
