3rd day of fever

Shall I call the doctor?

DD(3) has had snotty nose and a bit of cough of 2-3 weeks and now since Monday highish temp (38.8 but I,ve been keeping her dosed up on calpol and nurofen so not sure exactly plus judging by the speed with which it raises/violent shivering, I thin k it could easily be 39+ without meds). Nose blocked up. Very tired, but not exactly lethargic/hallucinating etc. Doesn't complain of pain. Monday night she vomitted twice but nothing since then. Eats enough, although more bits here and there, has refused dinner.

I feel precious, it's probably nothing, but I'm used with my DC to either quick infections, lasting a day or two, just temp, or ear infections, or tummy bugs or full on flu.

This is neither here nor there and if it was just a simple cold, wouldn't the fever have abated by now?

I'd go to the gp could have turned into a chest infection.

winnybella · 11/04/2012 12:25

I wondered about that, but she doesn't really cough much at all Confused

I reckon a chest infection. When ds's cough gets less frequent is usually when the coughs got lower and has turned into an infection if that makes sense? 38.8 with regular meds if pretty high for 3rd day.

Right, that makes sense. Will call. Thank you Smile

Just got off the phone with doc and she told me to call tomorrow morning for an app for tomorrow if the fever doesn't go down.

She also said that just because she's not complaing that her ears hurt it doesn't mean that she doesn't have ear infection as apparently it's possible to have that without any pain! I had no clue.

But she agreed that it could be something bacterial after the cold so I'm not paranoid.

But then if it is bacterial, shouldn't she be seen earlier?

Ds has had ear infections quite a few times and never once complained of ear pain. He usually complains of tummy pain with a baceterial infection - I presume due to glands being up?

If you want her seen today then insist on it.

winnybella · 11/04/2012 12:51

She said few times that her tummy hurt but it wasn't very often and I though she was just being dramatic (as she has tendency to be).

V.interesting about ear infections with no pain, I had no idea.

She looks a bit brighter now, so I'll just watch her and if she takes a turn for worse before tomorrow, I'll just go to A&E, I guess.

How is she now Winny?

winnybella · 16/04/2012 17:38

She was diagnosed with ear infection and tonsillitis, 8 days of ABs. Much brighter now. Feel bad for waiting 4 days Blush
