Is this Chicken Pox?

I have a 2 1/2 year old DS. He came out in small spots all over torso, arms and legs 3 days ago and had a fever on the first night. Since then the spots haven't changed much (just got a bit redder) and he has been right as rain - no pus or white head on the spots - look more like small insect bites just a bit red and raised.

His twin brother has no sign of spots.

Can chicken pox be like this?

I know they should stay in until after the spots have scabbed over if it is chicken pox - but there's no real sign of progression in the spots. I could take him to the doctor but would be concerned about, for e.g. pregnant women or immune suppressed people in the waiting room.

Also I am a teacher and due to go back to work next week. DH is SAHD - do I also need to be in isolation? I've had both chickenpox and shingles in the past.

Many thanks and sorry for probably stupid questions.

You don't need to be in isolation. When my kids had chickenpox after the first day I had no doubt what it was even though I'd never seen chickenpox.

However, iiwy I would call your GP in the morning and talk to them - if they want you to come in they can usually provide an isolated room.

Doesn't sound like chicken pox to me - we have a very poxy household at the minute.

Allergic reaction to something or a heat rash maybe?

It doesn't sound like chickenpox to me either. Could be a virus - my DD2 kept getting these and I took her to the doctor each time. You can tell the receptionist when booking and when you arrive they'll put you in a separate room/area.

Chickenpox spots keep coming too. Is he getting more as the day goes on?

don't sound like chicken pox to me either, maybe a virus or something?

I would say you'd have seen an obvious change to the spots after a day of them appearing - the 'blister' is quite distinctive & the following scab.

If the spots on your DS are small, evenly-spread, pinprick-sized and cover all of his body (not necessarily the face) then he could have a post-viral rash, especially if he had a fever before the spots appeared.

Maybe a trip to the GP is a good idea though, just to confirm/allay your fears.

Good luck

Thanks all.

Said DS is still awake after 2 hrs in bed and singing 'the wheels on the bus'.

Wonderwooman, yes, does look like you describe.

I'll call the GP tomorrow.
