Screaming when she poos (22mth old)

My DD3 has often seemed to find pooing quite uncomfortable - not tummy squirmy or constipated, but the actual action of pooing itself - and recently it's taken on epic proportions - she screams like someone is torturing her - and she's usually such a placid, happy child. We've just started potty training and she really wants to go to the toilet now to poo - hates going in her nappy - but just screams and screams as the poo comes out.
It's heart-breaking.
Her poo is occasionally hard, but even when it's soft she still screams. The only time in the last 2 weeks it didn't seem to hurt was when she pooed in the bath - not a technique I'd like to try daily!!
What am I doing wrong- is it her diet? - or could there be something physically wrong? - is she going to end up phobic? Aarghh...

She may have developed a fissure (crack) due to passing hard poos which will take some time to heal. Best to see gp to check this out I think.
