Ds is 16 mo and just over 6 weeks ago was ill with high temp of 40 and cough and cold, temperature, went afer a few days but cough persisted and was eventually diagnosed as chest infectio.
Since then his cough had improved, though still apparent, howeer with the exception of a few days he has had a temperature of over 39 degrees.
He is snotty, but generally ok in himself - eating is generally ok, although on a couple of days hasn't eaten at all.
Also, his hands and feet are usually v cold and have noticed his lips going blue, but they sometimes do when he is cold
Not sure whether I should take him back to the docs?
Any advice? Or ideas about what could be wrong?

OP I hope your DS is ok - my DS is same age and we had to take him to our of hours last night for exact same thing - he was diagnosed with tonsillitis
It was the blue thing that got me- was straight on phone and seen within 20 mins of calling

winny i didn't take him because other than the temperature he was fine.
So just thought he was unfortunate to catch things one after the other.
The blue lips thing only started happening 2 days ago, which is when I began to get worried.
I feel like I have neglected him now, leaving him with a temperature for 6 weeks - just to add it hasn't been 40 each of those days. A range from 38.7 -40.3 Sad I am a crap mum aren't I?
He is so much better today, bizarrely and has come out in a rash which is is very pale pink raised spots/bumps. He had a very similar rash when he had a viral infection (fist diagnsed as chickenpox) last year.

Oh interesting point about tonsilitis, dp's little sister spend a few hours here 2 weeks ago and came down with acute tonsilitis a few days later. He was already cold-y but still eating so didn't think he had it.

i feel so shit now

Meant to add his temp is 38.2 today. It is hard as I kept asking for advice in RL but everyone who sees DS can't believe he is ill so am made to feel like am neurotic.
Obviously from your response I can see I am not. just neglectful
I am keeping an eye on him, and will be keeping the appointment on wednesday to ensure they check his heart/lungs etc.
I am very fair skinned (as is ds) and when am cold my finger nails go blueish and sometimes my lips, think I have poor circulation.

Rash could be a post viral rash.

You aren't a bad mum. However, if I were you and his temp went high again I'd get him checked straight away.

Also, an untreated uti can damage the kidneys so make sure urine is checked.

OP has your lo had MMR vaccination recently?

I am wondering if he has some of the side effects coupled with the usual round of coughs & colds?

The reason I ask is my DD had her MMR and the rubella rash and a few spikes of temp? Just a thought.....

Good luck x

Ok, so basically he had a temp of 39-40 for the last six weeks. And for the last two days his lips are going blue.

Jesus, woman, take him to A&E or OOH, don't wait another 5 days til Wednesday.

Becaroooo · 06/04/2012 20:13

What on earth are you waiting for an appt on weds for????? Shock

PLEASE take him to oohgp or a&e.

How can a nurse tell how ill your child is over the phone????

A high temp for 6 weeks and lips turning blue is not normal

Please get him checked out

Cold hands and feet can be a warning sign of meningitis btw.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 07/04/2012 10:37

How is he today? :)

knackeredmother · 17/04/2012 13:53

Op, did you ever get this sorted? I've been thinking about you.
