DS has had a cold for getting on for a month now. I took him to the dr two weeks ago and she said his chest was fine and it was just a normal cold which I could look forward to for many years to come. The cough then seemed to get better, but over the past couple of days it has returned with a vengeance, especially at night. It now wakes him up and therefore us, and is so upsetting. Apart from the endless sfream of snot DS is producingn he seems completely fine and happy. I'll probably trot off to the dr again tomorrow, but was wondering what others' experience of baby coughs were and whether there were any remedies I could try.

I sympathise as my DS (4yo) was (still is) constantly ill.

Things that helped for us:

Putting in a steamy room (run shower or bath) especially prior to bed time - this loosens the mucus (be prepared) Grin

Use of a humidifier in the room - I sometimes put this on high prior to him going to bed and then reduce to a lower (quieter) setting for during the night. Don't ask me how it works as you can't even see anything but it definitely helps him!

Some baby chest rub.

My DD (15mo) is more responsive to the steam thing than DS ever was - I think some are 'just one of those kids' and will unfortunately suffer whereas others seem to fight things off better or grow out of it more quickly.

Obviously the usual take him back AGAIN if he deteriorates/has temp that cannot be bought down but otherwise you are probably best off keeping him away from the roomful of germs at the GP surgery unless you think the condition changes!

Good luck :)

My 6 month old has just been diagnosed with Whooping cough, its going around believe it not, i'd say go and get it checked as a hacking cough is symtom of whooping cough, better to be safe than sorry x hope he gets better very soon.
