Have just found out dd is slightly overweight

Ive been a bit worried about dd2's weight for a while so had a chat with the school nurse. She said she would weigh her when she was next in school. Spoke to her this week with the results. She's around 9th centile for height and 50th centile for weight so heavier than she should be.

I'm not quite sure how this has happened because she has a quite a small appetite. She does like chocolate and the sweet stuff but I carefully monitor what she has and it's certainly not excessive. She is a VERY fussy eater, that's another story and I'm ashamed to admit she eats no fruit or veg not for the want of trying. She does drink innocent smoothies though so that's something.

She likes quite plain food so will eat chicken/beef/lamb/salmon with pasta/rice/noodles etc. Doesnt eat any potatoes or chips.

I have to be very careful how I handle it because she is a very bright, highly emotional child who's very hard on herself. She reads a lot including a lot of Jacqueline Wilson so is probably aware of the whole body image thing. If she thought she was overweight it would be the end of the world for her. She's already convinced she isn't popular at school. She's very academic and isn't keen on sport, she doesn't even enjoy a good run around in the park unless she's in the right mood or if a friends there. Try and take her swimming when we can and she does ballet once a week.

Does anyone have any advice?

No advice, sorry, just empathy. I started a thread about my own DS's weight and eating patterns in Behaviour a few hours ago. You might find the advice from posters there helpful. As you'll see, I'm convinced the answer is not to focus on the food itself as I dont believe this will help.
