hayfever in 4yo?

my dd, 4, has always suffered with is 'mild' eczema (not sure what severe is like). i'm becoming more and more baffled though about what triggers episodes for her (which is when we use a steriod ointment in addition to her usual 50/50 moisturiser).

i'm mentioning the eczema because i think this last weekend she now also has hay fever like symptoms - this is new for her here in the UK. whenever we're in SA in summer she has shown similar symptoms in the past: runny nose, teary eyes, general puffiness of her face; tonight she had a severe rash almost all over her body.

i don't really know what to do - i gave her piriton a couple of times in the last few days which seemed to make very little actual difference (and makes her drowsy).

about a month ago she had a much more low key, but still noticable episode, which i thought might have been related to giving her a drink made from blackcurrant concentrate (you know...)

does she need allergy testing? should i be taking some sort of preventative action? i'm thinking i will take her to our gp this week but i'm really not sure what i'd be aiming for (iyswim).

I'd take her to the GP and explain her symptoms. I'm not sure they'll allergy test her, but from everything you've described it does sound like hayfever symptoms. The GP will advise.
My DS gets hayfever and is prescribed tablets from the doctor. He takes one a day during the pollen season (spring/summer months) and the good thing is that they don't make him drowsy like piriton can.
I think it's quite common for kids that suffer with eczma to get things like hayfever too. Good luck.

Dd 4 has hayfever mainly in her eyes, she gets black smudges where she runs at them with dirty hands.
Our gp tried 3 different antihistamine before we settled on one so def get to doc !

take her to the gp, probably she needs cetrizine or low dose steroids.
4y is the typical age for hayfever symptoms to start and many plants are in overdrive right now.
