Put some soap on a big plaster and leave on splinter overnight. it will bring it to the surface, then a needle to poke it out.

A hot bath can help too

After trying hard to get quite a large one out of ds' wrist we left it for about a week. It was hurting him more when we squeezed and poked with a pin.

It must have worked it's way out because Ds managed to squeeze it out in the bath a few nights ago.

put some savlon on a plaster then wrap plaster round finger.
Leave for a few hours or overnight and the savlon will 'draw' the splinter out.
DH thought I was mad when I told him this then was speechless when it actually worked!!

When I haven't been able to get them immediately I have left them (mainly because of all the crying and screaming) and found that they become a bit like a spot. Pop the spot and the splinter shoots out. Splodge of antiseptic cream and plaster on overnight and all back to normal the next day.

not sure but do keep an eye on it - DD ended up on IV antibiotic drip for 3 days when a splinter in her foot got infected and infection spread up her leg ...

Go to the chemist, not the dr, you can get a cream that will draw the splinter out.

Izpie · 24/03/2012 04:02

What sash says- can't remember what it's called but it does draw them out.

Magnesium Sulphate paste. You can buy it over the counter from any chemist/Boots. It's a drawing paste. The leaflet says' Magnesium sulphate is a drawing paste to help treat minor skin infections including boils. It will also help to draw foreign objects out of the skin, such as splinters, and reduce swelling'.
Put a dab on the splintered area, cover with a plaster and leave overnight. The next morning the splinter will have been drawn right up to the surface of the skin so very easy to remove or sometimes it will even have come out by itself and you'll find it on the plaster.
