Swimmer's Ear in child who loves swimming more than anything else - I can't be the only one??! What works?!

Hello

Title says it all really - DD1 loves swimming more than anything else and it is her 'thing' (she has a very dominant younger sister!). She gets recurrent ear infections punctuated by episodes of swimmer's ear. I can't do much about the ear infections but wondered about the swimmer's ear.

I have asked the GP who said (and I quote) 'I don't really know what you would do about that as none of my kids ever had problems with their ears' Confused!

I googled and read stuff about various sprays and drops etc and just wondered if any of it worked. We already have a Swimming Banz head thing but it is no use for lessons as she can't hear with it on and ear plugs just fall out.

Any advice welcome - not sure whether the sobbing over the ear pain or the sobbing over the no swimming is worse - today we actually went to the pool to watch the lesson as it was the last one of term Grin

My 3 have all had grommets so have to wear the swimming banz with ear putties - no other option if they want to swim, we just had a word with the teacher and they have progressed in lessons fine.

Personally I think reoccuring ear infections and swimmers ear should be avoided at all costs, not only for the pain but the potential long term damage it may cause

My son loved swimming.because of swimmers ear I had to take him of swimming. He still moans about it.Head cap and ear bud should help, but I have no experience.I was terrified of the complication of infection, which made me take the decision.
