DD (5) Air in the abdomen and stomach pain...doc worried...?

Hi MNers.... i wasnt worried untill i came OUT of the doctors today.. :(

My DD age 5 has complained of tummy pains for 3/4 maybe even 5 months now...
every so often she would moan and clutch her tummy, and give the usual "owwww my tummy hurts" which i would reply with " its nearly tea time" or "you probably ate you tea to quick" or "go to the toilet"

over the past month or two its been getting worse. the pains have been coming daily, sometimes even a couple of times a day. to the point of her being doubled over and in tears. lasting for between 2 mins and 10 mins.

I took her to the docs today finally, after umming and arring about it for the past couple of weeks. I expected to be told it was fine and feel like i wasted their time.

anyway, the doc listened and checked her over, asked all the questions and "what do i think it is" stuff.....and finally said, she has a lot of air in her stomach/abdomen, and he wants a urine and stool test done...and if that comes back clear, then its blood tests and referals..........

WTH!!!

Hes told us to keep her off fruit and veg for the forseable, coz that could be making things worse....so i have just made her a packed lunch for tomorrow (which was hard without healthy stuff in it) as that would be easier than asking school to make sure she doesnt eat veg.....

she must be the ONLY child arround to be told by a doctor NOT to eat her 5 a day hahahahaha

seriously though.... please tell me i shouldnt be worried........ :(

I would go back to the GP and ask what he thought it may be and why no fruit and veg....the next thing she'll be constipated! Seems a bit odd. Isn't air in the tummy wind? When it hurts she could trying lying on her left side...that helps wind work it's way out..

She pumps ALL the time...almost too much...we joke about her windy pants all the time lol. they STINK tho too! again something we have always just had a laugh about.... shes never had trouble getting rid of it hahaha

hes told us to reduce the amount of fruit and veg as that may be making whatever it is worse....

i dont think he knows what it is...but knows its not right...

he seemed to be concentrating on the amount of air inside her tummy like it was more than just a little..... his face was worried....

Im probably just worried a bit too much.... im sure there is a simple explanation to it all...

I can offer no advice but am going through similar with my 10yo DD. She seems to rush for the loo before she has even finished a large meal but not with the runs but wind. She pumps loads. Gets windy cramps frequently. Complains of fleetingnausea from time to timeas well. Errs on the side of constipation and been on Lactulose for 3 months with no apparent change to anything.

She has been like this d
for almost 2 years. We have finally been referred to the hospital and our appointment is the end of next week. I am getting to the stage I would welcome some tests.

oh gosh hun. that cant be nice for her...i hope you get somewhere soon with her.
i think we are lucky then that DD doesnt have constipation, but thinking about it since you said...she does have bouts of saying shes ikky.... [hmmm]
