Tummy bug or teething?

My 9 month old DS has had dreadful tummy troubles since Thursday. Yellow liquid poo, sometimes with green gluey bits in it - it smells a nit vommity/like off milk. This has also led to terrible nappy rash. It got so bad on Saturday that he was filing his nappy every hour at least and I ended up taking him to the emergency clinic at the hospital as I was concerned he would dehydrate.

They checked him over at the hospital. He had no temperature and was happy and full of energy. They concluded that it was a tummy bug and told me to keep him away from other children for at least 48 hours after the nappy has returned to normal.

His nappy still isn't anywhere near normal, although he is going every 3 hours now, so things a slowing down. Yesterday evening though, 7 teeth came through (he only had one top one before - the other 3 top ones have come right through and I can feel all 4 bottom ones too).

I'm getting really frustrated not being able to go anywhere, but of course if this is a bug I wouldn't want to share it with anyone - it's been horrific.

Any ideas how to get his tummy back to normal?

god 7 teeth at once? Poor you (and poor him). Pooing once an hour, thats a lot of poo! It does sound more like a tummy bug, with the teeth making it worse. No real advice as he's otherwise well, just ride it out. If he's happily eating then stick to bland food for a day or two (I bet you have anyway).

It seems that I posted too soon! Whatever it was seems to have cleared up. With any luck we can be out and about on Thursday.

Bizarrely the teeth don't seem to be bothering him at all - the only grumbling and tears have happened at nappy change times.

Nappy rash has been brought under control with good old Savlon - he seems to find it cooling and soothing. If the tummy stays clear I can treat with Metanium soon.

When my dd was teething she always had a sore nappy area and runny tummy. Docs always said it wasn't connected but I'm sure it is! Sounds exactly like she had. Even thought she was lactose intolerant but wasn't in the end...thank goodness!

So, today we made a return trip to the doctors. The nappy rash had flared up again and he's started doing strange greeny yellow slimy nappies in between his normal ones. Doctor still thinks its a bug and it's on its way out, but his teeth have really been giving him pain today - lots of sore cheeks and dribbling.

I guess I'll never get to the 'bottom' of what's causing this, but I just want it gone :(
