Movicol- how long before it should work?

DS is 1. Has been prescribed movicol for constipation- had tried lactulose for a week but it wasn't working. Am giving him 1 sachet a day, today was day 2 and he produced one firm poo about the size of a walnut. He hasn't pooed properly for about 3 days before that (and that was using a suppository), and prior to that it was another 3 days.

Am expecting that there is quite a lot of poo to come so wondered how long I should expect it to be before the movicol works.

Thanks for any help

Were you told to increase the dose at all?

Oh ignore I have just notcied he is 1!

I think it can take a day or so. DD has been taking it on and off for years. She tends to have two or three sachets per day to get things going, then a sachet a day for a while to things get back to normal. But she is 10 now.

Still no poo despite day 3 of movicol. Tried a suppository which produced a small poo (am worried existing poo is blocking softer poo). Should I be worried or can it take a while on 1 sachet per day? Am also trying to get him to drink more water but he's more keen on being bf!

It may take a few days. Make sure hr has as much fluid as possible which the movicol will draw on to soften the poo.

Have you tried massaging his tummy and lower back? Sometimes help to stimulate things along side the movicol.

Poor little thing my Ds has been taking it for a year (he's 6), but a friends dd had movicol at about 18months and she found a good massage of tummy, lower back and thighs of her dd would usually help.

Gooduck

Thanks everyone for the input. We've had poo 2 days running now so think its working which is great. He seems happier and no / v little straining too
