Failed hearing test

Hi all,
My son has failed a hearing test at school today, the school nurse reported it is quite profound. Visit was prompted by his teacher, he is new to school and she says she feels he has the worst hearing on a child in her experience,
I knew he had bad hearing however, i wasn't aware it was quite this bad! He has waxy ears and often has to use olive oil drops, but this time gp has referred him for microsuction.
I just wondered if anyone has had any microsuction experience and if so, could his hearing return to a reasonable level after the procedure, or would there usually be some underlying problem for him to fail the test so miserably?
Thanks for any assistance!

My daughter has persistent glue ear which has resulted in a failed hearing test. She is under the care of a ENT specialist. She has had grommets twice. Sounds to me that your little boy needs to be referred to ENT to rule out glue ear very common in small children. The teacher has done the right thing by having a hearing test. Best of luck
