Anyone any idea what this might be? strange patches of skin on ds

A few weeks ago I noticed a patch of skin on the back of ds's leg, it's about twice the size of a 10p, brown, slightly raised and a bit red to one edge.

Since then a few more patches have come up, on his shoulder blade and back, one is quite big and looks like rough skin. They're not itchy, he has no known allergies or excema and hasn't changed anything in his diet recently. Washing powder the same brand since he was born. I've tried moisturising but makes no difference.

Is it anything to bother about? It doesn't seem enough to take him to the dr about as he is perfectly well, but I can't help wondering if it something rather than nothing.

Thanks!

I have no idea I'm afraid, but I didn't want your post to go unanswered. Personally I'd make an appointment with the GP, just to be on the safe side and out of curiousity.

Not sure, but I know exactly what you mean from your description. Will try and recall

Ringworm?

i'm a GP and agree with Poptart.

pityriasis rosea?

LineRunner · 13/03/2012 21:43

You need to get it looked at.

Thanks all. Having feasted my eyes on the best images google
has to offer on skin diseases I think pityriasis rosa more likely than ringworm - patches don't have that ring around them. I will monitor & make a drs app for next week to be on the safe side.

Thanks again

Sounds like it could be discoid eczema, caused by dry skin. My DS gets circular patches of this on his legs. Its a bit scaly, not particularly itchy, and the outer edge of it can seem redder. Try putting some hydrocortisone cream on the patches for a few days - if they clear up, then this is probably what it was!
