Second MMR at 2 years 5 months??

I have been told by my health visitor that my nearly two and a half year old should have her second MMR now, but everything I have read says about 3 and a half to four. Did anyone else have their child's booster done this early?

there might be more cases of M, M or R in your area and the booster catches the majority of the children that were left unprotected by the first injection.

I live in London so maybe that's the case. Thanks :)

If she's had one MMR then normally there's no need to have the second one before it's due, which is usually with the preschool booster at 3 yrs 4 mths onwards.

However if there is a HPA advisory to get it done earlier then it may be needed - check with your surgery.

I'm not in UK now, but my DD is not even 2 and the GP was going through her red book from UK to check what vaccinations she'd had when we moved here. Here, the second MMR is given at 18months, so we have got to book her in for that. Apparently they have a high incidence of measles, so it is better to get maximum protection as early as possible.

I spoke to the nurse at the surgery and she said to come in and have it done so I suppose it must be ok. I think this one will be worse as she's a lot more aware now so will literally have to be held down :( They said the other boosters don't have to be done until pre school so that's a relief. Only one injection!

We have low take up rates for the vaccination here and lots of measles, so requested DD's 2nd booster at 2.4

Oh, she was great by the way. Easier to bribe now, I find!

True, the promise of some sweets afterwards will prob do the trick!
