It's red and about the size of a 5p, smooth and seems a bit tender when I touched it changing his nappy (he flinched a bit :(). He is also having nasty diarrhoea and has vommitted today. I think he is teething. Could any of that be related? Anyone got any ideas?

Could be hernia? My DS didn't have problems with his until he was 11 and then they just repaired it. Keep an eye on it and if it hasn't changed in next couple of days get it checked out. Sick and poo could easily be related to teething!

Thanks, I'll google hernia. Yes I thought the sick and poo could be teething, I wondered whether the lump could (somehow?!) be, too. He seems fine in himself. Might phone the doctor early tomorrow and try and get a same day appointment.

Is it hot? Look like a big spot? Could be an abscess (boil). I would get a doc to look, hopefully its nothing too serious

I think it might be a particularly nasty bit of nappy rash actually. The diahorroea he has is obviously really acidic as it's started making his bum really sore and it's getting everywhere. It is a soft lump so def not a hernia. He has never had nappy rash before and bless him he's whimpering in pain, must be horrid for him. :(
