Antibiotics and 15 mo

I know there's a thread right down below about the same thing for a 17 mo, but I thought I'd start my own as the situation is a bit different. DD has a chest infection and we need to give her antibiotics. We have tried the sweeties approach ( she just rejects the sweeties) and the crooked arm approach and the mixing it with things approach. So poor DH is doing his best with the syringe but she howls and struggles and wears herself out. We do get it down her and she doesn't vomit, but it is such a dreadful time for all of us. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make it less awful?

Nice treat immediately afterwards, like a smartie?

We had to syringe abs into ds 3 times a day for a week when he was about 15 months old. Pinning him down and getting them down him ASAP was the only thing we could do. Luckily it was just after Christmas and we had a million chocolate treats left so he got a chocolate coin after every dose.

I tasted the abs myself and they were vile, left a really nasty burny aftertaste so I really did feel sorry for the poor boy! He's fine now though, no signs of trauma and took some calpol off a spoon as normal last week so pinning him down doesn't seem to have affected him.

so chocolate is the answer? OK. Will get hold of some smarties asap. thank you!

You may still end up doing some force feeding of the meds though, the chocolate just aids the forgiveness Wink Good luck!

Does she eat yoghurt? You could try it mixed in a few spoonfuls of that instead?

Thanks all. We made it through with the aid of Minstrels. She's her usual bouncy self now.
