DS1, age 10, suddenly went down with thumping headache late yesterday afternoon (long history of them), and I assumed it was a migraine. He was very rough all evening, didn;t know what to do with himself, and during the night had a high temperature, was a bit tearful and obviously unwell. First thing this morning his temp was 38.6 - after ibuprofen and paracetamol it did go down, late morning, but by mid afternoon was back up to 38.5. He was very shivery at one point. He's now had ibuprofen and paracetamol in the last hour, temp has gone down a bit to 37.9. I'm sure it's just a throat or chest infection or something, lots of viruses doing the rounds at school, but any other tips on getting his temp down? Am making him drink lots.

Temp still 37.9, so doesn't look like it's going down any more. Sad

Just keep him stripped off hopefully it ain't last long. The now longer advise cold flannels only tepid ones and keep him hydrated. Hope he feels better soon

We have the same virus thing here. My son's temp has been near 40 for four days. So it's neurofen then calpol etc to keep it down. It is a really nasty virus, I started getting really worried on the second day. Called the dr and they said I was doing the right thing so lots of luck.......you poor thing.

Thanks! He was meant to be in a cricket match tonight and football semi final tomorrow - he's absolutely gutted. But can barely raise his head off the sofa or say much. Think it might be a disturbed night again tonight.....
