More crazy than normal coughing so took 3 yo ds to out of hours dr on Saturday morning, he has a chest infection, prescribed amoxicillin 2.5ml 3 x day for 5 days. I just gave him his last dose however he is still coughing, same sounding not as bad as Saturday but still sounds bad. The bottle is still quite full, do you think it would be wrong of me to continue on for another 2 days? I have been googling and its usually 5ml for 7 days? Then if nothing improves take him to the GP Friday? or should I go straight to the GP tomorrow? I am guessing being sensible the latter but any thoughts, experiences?? thanks

What is the dose of the medication?

Sirzy · 07/03/2012 19:00

I would try to get an appointment in the morning if he isn't showing much improvement he may need a different antibiotic to clear it

It says each 5ml equals 250mg, he has been on 2.5ml 3 x a day for 5 days. thanks

What sirzy said. Dd is just at the end of a nasty chest infection. Amoxicillin same doses for 7 days.
By day 4/5 she seemed a little better but day 6 she was going backwards so gp sent us to children's hospital so she could be properly diagnosed. Another set of abs plus the amoxicillin, saw the difference within a day.

Don't want to alarm you - she was very poorly with v high temp - but I'd go back to the gp tomorrow.
Hope he's better soon.
