Hi , anyone any experience with ingrown toenails in a young baby? His two big toenails have looked ingrown since birth, they are swollen at the sides and sometimes look red. Will ask the Doctor at his next vaccinations in a few weeks but was wondering in the meantime if anyone else has been in this situation?

My ds3 has had similar on his fingernails occasionally from 10wks. Doc advised to gently pry the nail away, snip off ingrown bit then round off with a file and use a mild antiseptic if required for any infection. If it became very swollen/ hot/ sore then a gp appt and antibiotic would be needed. Hth.

Interesting. My DD had weird toenails from birth. I was a bit worried they would end up ingrowing, which is what they looked like they were, (my brother had to have surgery on his!) but now she is 3 they are sort of flaky at the end but not ingrowing anymore.

Thanks for your replies, yes I was worried he might need surgery. I suppose I'll have to ask the doctor. I showed my MIL today and she agrees that they look quite swollen. When he stands his bigtoes sometimes curl upwards as if it's sore to put weight on them.
